Ambush at Cavern Cove 2021 Review

November 01, 2021

The 2021 SASS Southeast Regional Championship of Cowboy Action Shooting, Ambush at Cavern Cove is in the books. The North Alabama Regulators have played host to the Regional since 2019.

The one constant in 2019 and 2020 was rain. Downpours plagued the match both years. And, while rain greeted shooters for around an hour or so on the morning of side match day, the wet weather did hold off until a downpour set in just after the targets were painted that afternoon.

Main match days produced a little fog both mornings, with Saturday morning getting the worse of it, but it quickly burned off and the rest of the day was beautiful.

As I started planning for this match, I poured over statistics from the previous two years and trying to determine a sweet spot that I hoped would produce the a pretty good match.

And, if the smiles on the shooter's faces told any tales, I believe that we were able to accomplish our goals.

A big shout out also goes to the NAR Board of Directors, Buck D. Law, Barkeep Casey, Big Iron Ranger, Drake Robey, Graywolf Tate, Toolman, and Reno Mustang. Buck often refers us in sports analogies calling us his baseball team. As the manager, Buck does have a great crew of cowboys around him, all pitching in to make this match a success.

At the end of two days of shooting, Sidekick from Alabama won match overall and SE Regional Champion honors. After winning the Regional in 2019, Sidekick focused on the goal of winning the next one shooting in the gunfighter style. Coming up short in 2020, he was able to reach that goal in the 2021 match.

Joining him as the top cowgirl and SE Regional ladies champ was Dodge City Dixie from Tennessee. This was her fifth consecutive SE Regional crown.

Also, congratulations to all the SE Regional Champions in all their respective categories this year!

If you have not yet heard, Ambush is moving to a new date in 2022. So, mark your calendars for September 29-October 1 for next year's Ambush at Cavern Cove.
